NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has teamed up with Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport to provide real-time information on public transport to visitors to hospitals across the city.

The move has involved installation of screens – similar to those found on bus stops and stations around Glasgow – in cafes and public areas giving real-time information on bus departures to provide improved bus information for staff, patients, and visitors.

And as the weather turns towards winter and temperatures begin to drop, this new service will allow patients, visitors and staff to keep an eye on the arrival of their bus from the warmth of our hospitals, rather than having to wait outside in the cold, rain or snow.

So far, the screens have been installed at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Royal Hospital for Children, Gartnavel General Hospital, New Victoria Hospital and Stobhill ACH. Another screen is planned for the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in due course.

Denis Sweeney, Travel Planning and Systems Manager at NHSGGC, said installation of the information screens was a small but important additional service for people who access care, visit or work at hospitals throughout Glasgow.

He said: “After an outpatient appointment, a visit to a loved one or a hard shift caring for patients, the last thing people want is to stand in the cold or rain waiting for a bus home to arrive.

“These new screens may seem like a small change, but their installation means people can wait in the warmth of our hospitals, confident that they will be kept aware of when their bus is due.

“Early feedback from our patients, visitors and staff has been positive, and as the winter approaches, I have no doubt that more people will be glad that they have been installed.

“I would like to thank everyone within NHSGGC who has worked so hard to ensure the screens are up and running, and Glasgow City Council and SPT for their support.”
