To mark Volunteers’ Week, we’re celebrating the incredible contribution our volunteers make every day.Matthew Leung, 18, from East Renfrewshire, volunteers each week at the New Victoria Hospital while balancing his sixth-year studies. From welcoming visitors to supporting patients on an older people’s ward, Matthew is helping make a real difference. He said: “I really love this role. Every day is a bit different and you’re meeting lots of different people. I’ve learned so much from doing it and gained so much experience.”Matthew spends time chatting with patients, helping with small tasks, and providing companionship to those who may be feeling lonely during their stay. He will begin studying medicine at the University of Glasgow after the summer and says volunteering has helped prepare him for a future career in healthcare. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, there are opportunities across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde where even a few hours can make a meaningful difference.Find out more: www.nhsggc.scot/staff-recruitment/volunteering/Read Matthew’s story here: www.nhsggc.scot/young-volunteer-gains-valuable-experience-supporting-patients-at-local-hospital/ See MoreSee Less
