Today, Health Secretary Neil Gray visited Frailty Service staff at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary to hear about the excellent progress they're making. ![]()

Laura Duffy, Consultant Geriatrician at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, said: “Working with our colleagues in the Emergency Department and Acute Assessment Unit, we have created a process which identifies people living with frailty. This enables us to direct and prioritise these people to receive care from a specialist team, in specialist areas and initiate early Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment. ![]()

"A key part of developing this service has been ensuring that we identify the priorities and concerns of our patients and their carers promptly and work in partnership with them to develop a plan for their care."![]()

Mouth cancer patient, Gareth Thomson and his family have praised staff at the Head and Neck Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (Eras) clinic for their care. Gareth said that sharing decision making with the Eras team helped him through the surgical process. ![]()

Gareth said: “I cannot praise the staff enough for how they have treated me in this process. These positive stories about the NHS need to be shared more as they really are amazing. My standard of care has been excellent.”![]()

Dr Sarah Sullivan, NHSGGC Consultant at the clinic, said: “Patients are encouraged to share what is important to their lifestyle and loved ones. This empowers them to actively participate in their treatment decisions, the benefits and risks of surgery, and being aware of the alternatives, which may be not to go ahead with surgery.”![]()
