🔬 Research Spotlight: Natalie MurdochMeet Natalie Murdoch, Clinical Research Educator at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.Natalie's journey into research began nine years ago when she joined as a Research Nurse, seeking new challenges and opportunities to develop beyond her work in an acute clinical setting. She quickly discovered how rewarding it was to contribute to studies that could improve treatments and patient care.Since then, she has progressed through senior research roles and now supports others working across the research community. What Natalie enjoys most about her role is the variety it offers and the opportunity to work across a wide range of specialties. Her position provides a unique overview of research delivery across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, allowing her to support colleagues, continually learn and contribute to work that has a meaningful impact on patient care.One of Natalie's proudest achievements was being part of the research response during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working on clinical trials that helped identify effective treatments for patients, she played a role in research that had an immediate impact on healthcare during an unprecedented period. She also witnessed first-hand how research moved into the public spotlight, with studies she was involved in being discussed nationally and recognised for their contribution to patient care.Reflecting on that experience, Natalie said: “Being involved in COVID-19 research showed just how important clinical research is in improving patient outcomes. It was incredible to work on studies that were making a real difference in real time and to see that work recognised beyond the research community. Knowing I played a small part in that effort is something I am very proud of, and it continues to inspire my work supporting the next generation of research staff.”
