Visitors to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital were given a musical boost yesterday – thanks to the Singergie Choir from Glasgow. Martha Quinn, a consultant colorectal and sarcoma surgeon, is gearing up for the London Marathon this Sunday.

Based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, she is using this experience to raise funds and shine a spotlight on the rare cancer that she treats, known as sarcoma. So far, she has raised over an amazing £5,000 👏

Hundreds of bikers turned out in spectacular style

Hundreds of bikers turned out in spectacular style today for the annual charity Easter Egg Run which ended at Glasgow’s Royal Hospital for Children.

Dressed in their Easter finest, riders gathered at Glasgow Green before setting off on a vibrant parade through the city on their way to the children’s hospital.

The event was held in aid of @gch_charity and it saw crowds line the streets to wave the bikers on.

This year marked a return to the RHC, offering young patients and their families the chance to see the colourful convoy up close

April is Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness

April is Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month.

Every year, the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre sees around 80 new referrals to its Teenage and Young Adult Unit, which provides specialist care tailored to the unique needs of young people aged 16-25.

Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist Aidan MacDonald explains some of the main signs and symptoms of cancers in teenagers and young people, and the importance of people getting checked if they have any concerns. These are:

* Significant unexplained weight loss
* Lumps, bumps and swellings
* Persistent pain anywhere in the body
* Mole changes
* Unexplained tiredness and fatigue

GP practices will be closed tomorrow on Good Frida

GP practices will be closed tomorrow on Good Friday and on Easter Monday. If you need urgent medical attention and cannot wait until your GP practice reopens on Tuesday 22nd April, please contact NHS 24 on 111. The GP Out of Hours service is by-appointment only, so please ensure you call 111 first. Pharmacies should remain open on Good Friday, and a number of community pharmacies will be open on Easter Monday. Opening hours for these can be found on our website.

Did you know that Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and Royal Alexandra Hospital all offer a specialist thrombolysis service?

If this treatment is carried out within the first few hours of stroke symptoms starting, it can limit the damage from strokes. The earlier you receive the treatment, the better.

If you suspect a stroke, it is vital that you or the person you are concerned about get to hospital as quickly as possible. Find out more on our website 📲

GP practices will be closed on Good Friday and Eas

GP practices will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

If you need medicines regularly, please think ahead to ensure you have an appropriate supply of your repeat prescriptions. Routine medications will not be issued by the GP Out of Hours service.

The GP Out of Hours service is by-appointment only. If you require urgent medical attention and cannot wait until your GP practice reopens after the Easter bank holidays please contact NHS 24 on 111.

Pharmacies should remain open on Good Friday, while a number of community pharmacies will be open on Easter Monday. Opening hours for these can be found on our website, and a link to this is in our bio.

LGBTQ+ colleagues from the NHS Greater Glasgow and

LGBTQ+ colleagues from the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and NHS Golden Jubilee Boards joined forces for a second year to host the LGBTQ+ Leadership Event. The event gives attendees the opportunity to connect and look back at the key moments that contribute towards shaping personal identity and individual leadership journeys.

Over 40 delegates from diverse roles and departments across both health boards explored the impact of authentic leadership, the power of connection, compassion, civility and community, including keynote speeches from inspirational speakers, interactive discussions, pauses for reflection and social networking.

Also known as Hattie, she said, “This is the most wonderful day I’ve ever had, just absolutely marvellous.”

Teenagers and young adults receiving cancer treatm

Teenagers and young adults receiving cancer treatment at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre will now receive a special tote bag, thoughtfully designed to provide comfort and care during their hospital stay.

Launching today to mark the start of Teenage and Young Adult Cancer Awareness Month, the bags were funded by the @beatsoncharity and contain practical items carefully chosen with input from the Youth Advisory Forum - a group of young people who have faced cancer themselves.

The Beatson’s Teenage and Young Adult Unit sees around 80 new referrals every year. The unit provides specialist care tailored to the unique needs of young people aged 16-25, ensuring they receive both medical and emotional support throughout their treatment.

Help us to reduce medicines waste – take our survey

Every day, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) dispenses around 100,000 medicines in the community – and it an average cost of around £11, that’s more than £1 million every day.

Recent figures show that around 10% of medicines are thrown away, either because they’re not needed or haven’t been taken.

That’s the equivalent of more than £100,000 every day – thrown away.

Last year, NHSGGC launched a Medicines Waste Campaign to ask for help from patients, the public, and from medical professionals to reduce these levels of waste.

We are interested in your views about our campaign, to highlight what we can all do together to reduce medicines waste and to help patients take control of their own medication.

Please take a few minutes to complete our survey, to help us understand the effectiveness of this campaign on reducing medicines waste.

Midwife Care Assistants at the Royal Alexandra Hos

Midwife Care Assistants at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Rosalyn Tudhope and Jennifer McArthur, have been praised by three Paisley mums for their support in their breastfeeding journeys.

The mums, Stephanie Dunne, Helen Buchan, and Sarah McCall have shared how regular check ins and guidance supported them to breastfeed their little ones confidently.

Rosalyn said:

"We aim to empower mums to make a truly informed choice regarding feeding their baby by educating them antenatally on the short and long-term benefits of breastfeeding. We then provide practical support for the first six weeks of a baby’s life, tailored to each mum and baby’s needs to assist them with overcoming any challenges that may arise."
