Meet Douglas. He was born on 17 November 2025 at 33 weeks gestation and weighed just 3lb 10oz. Douglas has been diagnosed with congenital heart block, holes in his heart, and Down’s Syndrome. As a result, he requires specialised care at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. His mum, Fiona, knows the value that her breastmilk gives Douglas during this time – it's like a powerful medicine that has helped him grow bigger and stronger. Douglas receives his milk through a small syringe and Fiona expresses her milk. This is an experience that has had its ups and downs. However, she has found amazing support in the RHC Infant Feeding Team who have developed a new digital tool for the Neonatal Unit families. The RHC Neonatal Unit is the first to launch vCreate Milk Tracker, a tool to provide mums with one on one support.
