The cardiology team from both the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Stobhill Hospital have raised thousands for the British Heart Foundation charity after taking part in this year’s Kiltwalk.
Kiltwalk is Scotland’s largest mass participation walking event, with almost 150,000 people taking part since 2016. This year’s event took place on Sunday, 28th April, between Glasgow and Balloch with the cardiology team taking on the mammoth 23 mile trek and raising more than £3100.
The team, made up of 14 cardiac technicians and six friends, joined the mass crowds in a bid to raise awareness of heart health.
Team lead, David Morrison, assistant physiologist at Stobhill said: “It was a great event and even better that we were able to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. Heart and circulatory diseases are the world’s biggest killers and as healthcare professionals specialising in cardiology, we witness first hand the impact of heart disease on individuals and families.”
The £3,100 raised by the cardiology team will directly support the British Heart Foundation’s life-saving research, education, and patient support initiatives, advancing their mission to prevent heart disease and improve cardiovascular care across the UK.
David added: “Supporting the British Heart Foundation’s vital work aligns perfectly with our mission to promote heart health and prevent cardiovascular illnesses.
“We decided to do this as a group of colleagues and treat this as a teambuilding exercise to make our bond as a department tighter, which will evidently help our working relationships.
“It was a challenging day, but the full team were in great spirits throughout and knowing people had donated their own money, helped push us over the line.
“I would like to thank all who donated to the fundraiser for something that is a really worthwhile cause and ‘close to our hearts’.”
