Greater Glasgow and Clyde residents are being reminded that GP practices and many pharmacies will be closed over the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.
People who need medicines regularly are encouraged to think ahead and ensure they have an appropriate supply of their repeat prescriptions, ordering only what they need, when they need it.
Routine medications will not be issued by the GP Out of Hours service, including controlled drugs, and it is important to note this service is by-appointment only. If you require urgent medical attention and cannot wait until your GP practice reopens please contact NHS 24 on 111.
A number of community pharmacies will be open on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and on Hogmanay, New Year’s Day and 2nd January. However, many of these will operate reduced opening hours, which can be found by visiting Pharmacy Opening Hours – New Year 24/25 – NHSGGC.
Every community pharmacy in Scotland provides the Pharmacy First service, offering support and treatment for a range of minor ailments from coughs and colds to earache and heartburn.
Anyone can walk in off the street and be seen, with no appointment necessary.
Pharmacies are an important part of a range of services available to people throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
