Hospital radio is making a return to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, thanks to a partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Paisley FM 107.5.

From Wednesday, June 8, patients, staff and visitors will be able to tune in to the new show between 12.00pm and 1.00pm.

The Royal Alexandra Hospital Radio Show will feature your favourite music, shout outs and dedications to loved ones, news and information about the hospital and updates from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The show builds on a successful hospital radio show from 2020, which allowed people to submit songs and messages to their families who were staying in hospital over the festive period.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Director for Clyde Melanie McColgan said: “We are thrilled that this partnership with Paisley FM will allow us to bring patients, staff and visitors a new radio show.

“The RAH is at the heart of the community in Paisley and this gives us another avenue to engage with the public and bring a bit of joy to people during perhaps stressful and uncertain times.

“We know that the show staff previously organised, during the festive period in 2020, was hugely popular, so it’s great to be able to bring it back in this way.”

The new RAH show which follows the format of successful shows such as the Paisley FM Community Request Show and Erskine Veterans Radio, which are dedicated to boosting community spirit and combating loneliness, depression and anxiety.

Paisley FM 107.5’s Jim Connell will present the Royal Alexandra Hospital Radio Show and is looking forward to bringing hospital radio back to the site.

He said: “For me, community radio is broadcasting in the purest form; a direct connection with a recognisable audience and The Royal Alexandra Hospital Radio Show gives us an even stronger connection with listeners.

“I am looking forward to the huge variety that comes from such a format and of course, to making the connections with the patients, staff and service-users of the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.”

Norman Ross, Director of Paisley FM 107.5, added: “We are delighted to have partnered with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to create this new show for the RAH.

“Having spent a number of happy years working in hospital radio I have been lucky to see the positive impact these shows have on patients, staff and visitors. The Paisley FM team are thrilled to be joining the RAH community in this way and we cannot wait for the first show.”
