My mum – the Superhero nurse

  • 1 min read

A Glasgow Royal Infirmary nurse who worked through the pandemic has been called a superhero – in her seven-year-old’s homework poem.

Gillian Beck, from Maryhill has been a nurse for over 20 years and works in a care for the elderly ward at the Royal.

Gillian’s son, called Sonny, attends Dunard primary in Maryhill. He said: “We are doing our school work at home and my teacher said we should write a poem. It was to be about a key worker so I chose my mum because she’s a nurse.

“She’s been working really hard and that gave me the idea. It made her really happy – I think she’s the best!”

Nurses are superhoeros, they just don’t have capes Unwell people eating grapes Running about here and there Spending all the time trying to care Even they always run Superhero of the day goes to my mum

Gillian added: “It’s been a difficult time for everyone, so Sonny’s poem did really mean a lot. He’s only seven, but does have a good understanding of what’s been going on.”
