An external decorative external panel this morning shattered and the pieces fell from the 10th floor of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital building.
Fortunately no-one was hurt and the area was immediately secured. An older man self presented to ED as he thought he had something in his eye following the glass panel falling. He was checked over and discharged.
Facilities staff are on site to assess and repair the damage.
It is not at this time clear why this happened.
As a precautionary measure, the front door of the QEUH will be shut from 5.30pm. Staff, patients and visitors can still access the hospital through the Discharge Lounge (across from the Teaching & Learning Building and multi-storey carpark) as well as the front entrance of the Royal Hospital for Children.
