NHSGGC team members announced as Nurse of the Year Finalists

Two NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) staff members and three nursing teams have been named as finalists of nationally recognised awards for excellence.

The Royal College of Nursing Scotland (RCN) announced today that the team members would be in the running to receive an accolade at its annual Nurse of the Year Awards, in June 2025. These awards are a celebration of excellence in Scottish nursing, acknowledging, highlighting, and celebrating the unwavering commitment and exceptional professional care provided by nursing staff.
 
The categories encompass various nursing specialties, acknowledging the indispensable contributions of registered nurses, nursing support workers, broader nursing teams and nursing students. They also recognise the innovation, leadership, and dedication to learning displayed within the nursing community.
 
Professor Angela Wallace, Nurse Director for NHSGGC, said: “Huge congratulations to colleagues across Greater Glasgow and Clyde who have been announced as finalists for this year’s RCN Awards. Thank you for all of the work that you do, and for applying for this year’s awards. I wish the nominees every congratulations now, and good luck for the event later in the year.”

Individual categories

  • Best Start Midwifery Leadership Team (below), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Category: Children’s Nursing and Midwifery Award)
  • Health for All Nursing Team (below left), NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Category: Children’s Nursing and Midwifery Award)
  • Assertive Outreach Model (below right) at Renfrewshire Learning Disability Service, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (Category: Learning Disability Nursing Award)

Julie Lamberth, RCN Scotland Board Chair, said: “RCN Scotland’s Awards are becoming a key moment in the nursing calendar as a time to celebrate all that is great about our profession in Scotland. We received hundreds of inspiring nominations, making the judges’ role in shortlisting down to our finalists a momentous task. Regardless of the outcome, all our finalists truly demonstrate the daily dedication of nursing staff in delivering the best of nursing care for the people of Scotland.”
 
Colin Poolman, RCN Scotland Director, champions the awards, saying: “RCN Scotland holds these Awards each year to allow us to give some well-deserved recognition for the excellence, innovation and commitment of nursing staff in Scotland. Reading the nominations and hearing about the exceptional care that nursing staff deliver to the people of Scotland, I’m filled with such pride in the profession and the amazing nominees. I hope the finalists, as well as everyone who was nominated, feel the love and appreciation people have for the work they do.”
 
The winners of each category will be unveiled at a grand awards ceremony on 12 June at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. The highly coveted overall RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year 2025 will be selected from the registered nurse winners across the eligible categories.
