This course is designed for the new, current and future operational managers and provides an introduction to the common, but often taken-for-granted management skills.

The intention of this 1½ day programme is to introduce and help you to learn common management skills.
Day 1 covers key principles of communication (team and individual), influencing and how to be more effective in organising and delegating (including Performance and Time Management).
Day 2 focuses on your role in supporting and managing change in workplace including continuous improvement and problem solving.
The course workbook provides summary information on each topic along with further specific resources for further development.
Throughout the programme you will be also encouraged to think about ways in which you can apply learning in your workplace. These include:

Any new and current operational manager in NHSGGC who has responsibility for managing NHSGGC staff in their teams. This includes managers employed in integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships who are not directly employed by NHSGGC, but they manage NHSGGC staff in their teams.
This programme is also open to anyone who (as part of their PDP) is aiming to move into a management/supervisory role.

Course Overview
This module will provide practical guidance on the Recruitment and Selection of staff to help NHSGGC manager’s to recruit fairly, lawfully and effectively. This module is also intended to give an understanding of the key stages in the recruitment process, offer best practice guidance and outline the interactions necessary with the NHS Scotland Recruitment System (Job Train).

Course Overview
eESS (electronic Employee Support System) is the new national workforce system coming soon to NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Managers will be able to access their employee’s data online and get up to date information, as well as complete transactions which will then feed straight through to Payroll.
This training session will enable you to utilise the part of the system called Manager Self Service. Through Manager Self Service you will be able to electronically complete transactions and access real time reports. You will be able to book your employee on to training courses directly and view their training log.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Understand the principles of eESS Manager Self Service and how to navigate the system
Undertake changes to staff personal information e.g. address change
Manage applications for leave e.g. annual, maternity, paternity, adoption
Manage actions requiring management level attention, approve, reject and return for correction
Undertake changes to job information changes e.g. change to position, hours, location, cost code
Use the system to manage additional information requirements e.g. non NHS employments, absence management, return to work, exit interview and qualification updates

Any manager who did not get an opportunity to attend face to face manager self-service training can undertake the eEES Manager LearnPro module. The module provides a quick overview of Manager Self Service and links to the Standard Operating Procedures. Log on to LearnPro and search for “eEES” under the Specialist Subjects tab.
In addition, we would encourage managers and their staff to visit the national eESS website. The website contains step-by-step user guides and short e-learning videos for all transactions you will complete on eESS.
Course overview
This e-Learning module provides a comprehensive overview of the new Duty of Candour legislation and a guide for implementation in Health and Social Care.
There are case examples and descriptions of harm to help clarify when the procedure should be used. There is also information on how to apologise and why that is important.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to:
Understand the purpose of the Duty of Candour legislation and the principles for implementation.
Know when the Duty of Candour legislation should be applied.
Provide patients and relatives with an appropriate apology that meets the Duty of Candour requirements.

The review period for these courses is every three years with the exception of Fire Safety which is every year.
Moving forward all NHSGGC LearnPro courses will be numbered from 001-999. This is to help with identification of courses and to prevent confusion where course titles are similar in name. Course names will not be changed and are still searchable in the same way. An updated list of all courses and course titles will be available on HR Connect in January 2019.
As well as undertaking the Core Statutory Mandatory Training modules, you may be required to undertake Essential (Role Specific) topics depending on your role. This should be discussed with your Line Manager and agreed as part of your PDP.

Course overview
This is a communication skills online workshop for listening and responding to people who are worried or distressed.
SAGE and THYME workshops support all clinical and non-clinical staff in using the skills needed to notice distress, listen carefully and respond helpfully. Each 2hr 45 minute online workshop demonstrates the communication skills required to provide person-centred support and offers a structured approach for dealing with the concerns of patients and their carers.
The workshop uses a mixture of small group work, lectures and videos. The workshop is delivered online via Zoom.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop delegates should be able to:
Recognise the psychological needs of the patient
Communicate with the patient and provide general psychological support
