A Renfrewshire nurse has been recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.
Senior Charge Nurse Angela Thomson, who works on Ward 10 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, has been awarded a British Empire Medal for her services to the NHS.
Angela has been an NHS nurse for 38 years, and has worked at the RAH for 37 years.
She specialises in the care of diabetes, haematology and general medicine.
Angela will receive her medal at a local ceremony later this year.
She said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been named in the King’s Birthday Honours.
“It is a huge privilege and I am very much still in shock after hearing the news.
“I am pleased for the recognition this brings to the nursing profession.”
Others named on the Honours List were Anna Toland, a Team Leader for Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership’s Older People’s Primary Care Service, fundraiser Kenneth Muir for his service to the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, and Antoinette Parr, a General Manager in Medical Illustration and Clinical Physics. They are all being made Members of the British Empire.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Chief Executive Jane Grant said: “I am delighted that the commitment and dedication to public service that Angela, Antoinette and Anna have all shown working in health and social care has been recognised by these Honours.
“And I’d like to thank Kenneth for the wonderful support he gives the Beatson through his tireless fundraising.”
