Take our survey and help us to reduce medicines waste

  • 2 min read

Every day, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) dispenses around 100,000 medicines in the community – and it an average cost of around £11, that’s more than £1 million every day.

That cost is high enough – but recent figures show that around 10% of medicines are thrown away, either because they’re not needed or haven’t been taken.

That’s the equivalent of more than £100,000 every day – thrown away.

Last year, NHSGGC launched a Medicines Waste Campaign to ask for help from patients, the public, and from medical professionals to reduce these levels of waste.

And while early anecdotal evidence is positive, we would like to ask for the public’s help once more.

We are interested in your views about our campaign, to highlight what we can all do together to reduce medicines waste and to help patients take control of their own medication.

Please take a few minutes to complete our survey, to help us understand the effectiveness of this campaign on reducing medicines waste.

To complete the survey, go to:  NHSGGC Medicines Waste Campaign Impact Survey

The survey is completely confidential.  Your feedback is anonymous and will only be used to inform our next steps in the campaign. We may share reports based on the feedback we receive with interested parties including within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, other health boards and partners as appropriate.  If we use your direct quotes in any reports we will not include information that could identify you.

If you have any questions about the survey or need to complete it in another format, please email the Patient Experience Public Involvement Team at ggc.public.involvement@nhs.scot and leave a message.

The survey will close at 5pm on Wednesday 9th April 2025.

Thank you.
