NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) Chair, Dr Lesley Thomson KC, welcomed Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray, to ‘top out’ Bishopton and Dargavel’s newest healthcare facility yesterday (13th March).
As part of the new Dargavel Village development, the healthcare facility represents a significant local investment in partnership with NHSGGC, Renfrewshire HSCP, and Hub West Scotland. This new facility will complement the existing health centre in Bishopton, which was refurbished in 2022 and will serve both the residents of ‘Old Bishopton’ and ‘New Dargavel’.
It is part of BAE Systems’ wider transformation programme of Dargavel Village and was facilitated by the land and a £1m financial contribution being donated by BAE Systems.
The new healthcare facility will provide additional service capacity to meet the needs of the growing local population. It will feature five consulting rooms, one treatment room, four multiuse rooms, and one community room.
Dr Lesley Thomson KC, Chair of NHSGGC, said: “This project, along with others, is central to our commitment to delivering the highest quality, person-centred, and locally based care.
“These new facilities are designed to maximise clinicians’ ability to deliver a broad range of services and will provide additional space and flexibility for the current GP practice in Bishopton as well as our local Health and Social Care community services.
“In recent years, NHSGGC has opened new health and care centres in Eastwood, Maryhill, Gorbals, Woodside, Greenock, Clydebank, and most recently in Parkhead. The development in Dargavel Village represents the latest investment in our health and care services across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.”

Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray, said:
“I am grateful to NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership and Hub West Scotland for inviting me today and sharing their vision for this project.
“I am pleased to see the facility is designed to deliver long-term improvements to the community, ensuring a sustainable health service for the future and interconnected, patient-centred care for the people of Bishopton and Dargavel.”
The facility is also designed with sustainability at the forefront. The building targets hybrid-passive standards, utilising triple glazing and increased insulation on the building envelope. It uses natural ventilation strategies where appropriate, solar gain is optimised and controlled using openable windows and shading louvres in every room, again reducing lighting and heating energy demands.
Carron O’Byrne, Interim Chief Officer at Renfrewshire HSCP, added: “We’re delighted to be completing a project that will serve our local community for many years to come and will utilise enhanced building fabric to reduce energy demands.
“The future-proof design will also allow for further expansion to meet evolving requirements over time. We are grateful for the engagement of local communities in delivering this project.”

Iain Marley, Chief Executive at Hub West Scotland, commented: “We are thrilled to see the excellent progress on-site as we approach the completion of our twelfth project in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow. Our sincere thanks go to Renfrewshire HSCP, our dedicated professional team, and our supply chain partners, particularly Fleming Buildings, for their high-quality work and commitment.
“The building is set for completion this summer, and it’s fantastic to see the significant local community benefits already being delivered. To date, over £2.4 million has been spent with Scottish SMEs, alongside substantial social value through our locally focused initiatives in education, employment, wellbeing, volunteering, and SME development.”
Fleming Buildings Managing Director, Mike Burrows, said:
“We have successfully delivered a number of healthcare projects in collaboration with NHSGGC and Hub West Scotland and are delighted to further this with the development of these new health facilities.
“The focus on sustainability matches our own expertise in delivering highly efficient buildings, allowing us to share approaches from other projects. Having been involved in the project journey from the design stage, it’s hugely rewarding to see the building developing and the positive impact upon the local community from our social value commitments.”
BAE Systems is committed to creating a thriving and well-connected community in Dargavel where people can live, work and play and is investing a total of £93 million in site development, improving local infrastructure, services and amenities.
