Work has begun on a major project to replace 13 kitchens at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in the latest investment in facilities at the Paisley site by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The kitchens, which are used by Catering Services staff across the RAH campus to prepare food for patients, are being fully refurbished and freshly decorated.
At the same time, NHSGGC is also installing new chillers to further improve facilities and help staff in the storage and preparation of food for patients.
Following preparatory work by NHSGGC staff, the project got under way on Monday of this week and will be carried out in three phases to ensure there is no disruption to catering arrangements for patients.
Melanie McColgan, Director for Clyde Sector at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said: “It is very pleasing to see the project to replace the kitchens, and to install the new chillers, at the RAH get under way. These new facilities will help us to ensure that every aspect of the care we provide – including how we deliver the food patients need – continues to be as good as it can be for the people of Paisley and beyond.
“We have worked with Infection Control experts within NHSGGC to ensure the project will pose no risk to patients, and we can reassure everybody that we do not envisage any disruption to catering services.
“We would like to thank patients and their families, visitors and staff for their co-operation throughout the project.”
Morag Walsh, Head of Facilities Management Operations for Clyde Sector, said: “This project to update kitchens at the Royal Alexandra Hospital is an important investment in the facilities at the hospital.
“It is part of a wider scheme currently under way to update and improve facilities in sites across the NHSGGC area and it further demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible environment for patients, at the RAH and elsewhere in the health board area.”
