ZOOM Choir Performance from Paisley Opera to Thank NHSGGC Staff

  • 2 min read

A member of the Paisley Opera has thanked NHS staff by organising an operatic rendition of Easter Hymn using Zoom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GnaGp5iQXI

Elaine Loch, who has a degenerative eye condition called myopic macular disease, wanted to say thank you to staff after they were able to provide her with emergency eye care at the Gartnavel during lockdown.

Elaine requires regular eye injections for her sight and unfortunately due to lockdown was worried that her next treatment session would be cancelled. However, thanks to the staff at Paisley RAH, even though her clinic had been postponed due to COVID-19, they were able to fast track her to Gartnavel’s urgent treatment centre where she received two treatments to maintain her vision.

As a result, Elaine was able to live life as normal throughout lockdown, and didn’t have to worry about any deterioration in her eye sight. As a member of the Paisley Opera, formed in 2010, Elaine paid a fitting tribute to the NHS alongside operatic colleagues with a rendition of Easter Hymn from ‘A Paisley Kiss’. Using Zoom, the troope was able to come together online to thank all NHS staff for their hard work.

Commenting, Elaine said: “The treatment and the quality of care from NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde has been brilliant, even over lockdown. Despite challenges specialists had the appropriate pathways in place to help ensure patients are able to get the emergency eye treatment they require, and it if wasn’t for the teams at RAH and Gartnavel, I’d have lost my vision.

“I’d encourage anyone with eye concerns to attend their appointments. Early intervention is best so please don’t delay – NHSGGC has the facilities in place to ensure you can be seen in an emergency.”

Dr Ehab Abdelkader, Consultant Ophthalmologist added:  “I am very glad to hear these nice comments from one of our patients.

“This highlights our team work in Ophthalmology to deliver an excellent service across Greater Glasgow and Clyde especially during the challenging time of the COVID-19 outbreak.”
