Dumbarton nurse Emma Stewart has returned to the Vale of Leven Hospital – after 12 years working in Paisley.
Emma has joined the Vale team as the new Senior Charge Nurse, leading the Medical Assessment Unit.
Emma (35) started out on her nursing career at the Vale, firstly working in the Lomond Ward when newly qualified.
She said: “I have been working at the RAH, six years of which were in the Emergency Department.
“I’m delighted to be back at my local hospital and really looking forward to working in the Medical Assessment Unit. Local GPs refer their patients to us if they have a medical problem that requires further investigation or potential admission to our Acute Receiving Unit. We encourage our patients to make contact with their GP in the first instance, or contact NHS24, rather than self- presenting to our unit. This ensures all our patients are seen at the ‘right time in the right place.”
“The time was right for me to be working closer to home – I had a baby last year, so it’s part of a bigger change to my work life balance. And it’s also my first senior nurse post so very exciting too.
“I’m really enjoying the mixture of managing the MAU team and caring for patients and I’m pleased to be back serving my local community.
“The team at the Vale are amazing. Everyone is so friendly and everyone knows everyone, which you don’t really get on a bigger site. I’ve had a great welcome and I’m looking forward to supporting the development of the service on site.”
Margaret O’Rourke, The Vale’s Clinical Services Manager and Lead Nurse, said: “I’m delighted to have Emma on board. She brings a wealth of clinical experience to MAU and has a real ‘can do’ attitude. We look forward to working with her.”
