Web-based resources play a vital part in supporting learning and development. Key features include:
- Provision of up-to-date information, although this has to be monitored and maintained
- Tailored information e.g. specific staff groups, particular purpose, at set times
- Variety of mechanisms e.g. video, audio, written, pictures, diagrams
- Scope for some interactivity such as questionnaires and feedback but this is not usually ‘live’
- Ability to access content on people’s own devices – particularly useful with increasing smartphone app development.

- What is their purpose?
- How will they fit with other interventions?
Existing Resources
A huge amount of really valuable material already exists and it is always worth doing a little research before thinking about developing new resources. Here are a few that you should know about:
- Turas Learn; offers a wide range of resources covering clinical and non-clinical roles.
- The Knowledge Network; huge amount of information with access to numerous libraries and databases. (In some cases you may require and Athens account. You can register here if you do not have an account).
- Healthcare Improvement Scotland; sharing knowledge, expertise and best practice.
- NHS Improvement; offers insight into NHS England developments.
- Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD); the professional body for HR and people development.
- Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (ACAS); nationally recognised service which also provides valuable guidance and supporting resources.
