A member of NHSGGC’s diagnostics directorate has been made an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Antoinette Parr, General Manager, Medical Illustration and Clinical Physics, has been made a Member of the British Empire for services to NHS Scotland, scouting and St Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church in her hometown of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire.

Antoinette, who has worked in the NHS for 41 years said the honour was “very humbling”.

“It takes in the three things that matter most to me,” she said.

“Having worked in planning, medical records, waiting lists and diagnostics, I’ve seen huge changes and have worked with so many good people. It has been tough at times but very rewarding.

“I have loved every minute of my time in the NHS, and especially helping patients even though it has been in the background.”

Better known as Akela to the cubs of the 5th Airdrie Scout Group, Antoinette is also safeguarding officer for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Motherwell.

She added: “Safeguarding of young people is of huge importance and I’m proud to be dedicated to protection and care.

“In a way, I feel this honour has tied together the three things that are most important in my life. They give me a sense of balance and a moral compass.”

Other recipients of MBEs include Anna Toland, Team Leader, Older People’s Primary Care Service, Glasgow HSCP and fundraiser Kenneth Muir for service to the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre while Senior Charge Nurse Angela Thomson of the Royal Alexandria Hospital was awarded a British Empire Medal for services to the NHS.

NHSGGC Chief Executive Jane Grant said: “I am delighted that the commitment and dedication to public service that Antoinette, Angela and Anna have all shown working in health and social care has been recognised by these honours.

“And I’d like to thank Kenneth for the wonderful support he gives the Beatson through his tireless fundraising.”
